KCFW: Kansas City Fashion Week

Once again, in spectacular fashion, Kansas City Fashion Week ends summer, ushers in fall and introduces spring 2019 by launching Kansas City Fashion week with an en plein air garden brunch; this time featuring live music by 5x Grammy Award winning composer, songwriter and producer, Brian Kennedy.

KCFW is particularly known for providing a solid platform for emerging designers from which to launch their lines of clothing and accessories.

Next week’s runway shows bring more than 30 local and national designers, that by all appearances, are bringing fresh, slightly edgy looks to the runway.

As lover and collector of vintage jewelry-who also sews, I’m extremely excited about seeing Clarissa Knighten’s (Rissa’s Artistic Design) “Button Collection” on the runway, in addition to seeing what Georgina Herrera (Her) has in store for fans.

To satisfy my love for pure hands-on clothing construction, the essence of true couture, Veronica Jemkur (Venn by Veron) and Lydia Loya (West Fens), two women with tailoring passions, can’t disappoint.

For fiber fashionistas, Maria Behnen and Ameli Skoglund Blaser (Ideas from the North) should satisfy fiber addictions and cravings.

Behnen’s subtle retro swaggalicious 90-ish pieces, featuring bold, reflective, but well-put-together combinations of fabrics and color hues, although I’m not a fan of shoulder pads, is expected be both eye-candy and wearable art.

Blaser, whom initially learned to knit and crochet as a child from her Scandinavian grandmother, strives to beautifully meld fiber and history into timeless, but beautiful, creations that also epitomize lasting style comfort.

Season 14 runway shows begin, Wednesday, September 26 and wrap up on the 29, 2018 with featured designer, Rachel Roy and an after-party.
